“The great question that has never been answered, and which I have not yet been able to answer, despite my thirty years of research into the feminine soul, is ‘What does a woman want?’” – Sigmund Freud

Analyzing the responses of 275,000 women, EliteSingles has tried to answer the age old question: what do women want? The dating site – popular with single professionals – has determined that the income of their future partner is the most important factor for women when choosing ‘the one’.

By combining the percentages of women who scored each partner preference as ‘important’, ‘very important’ or ‘very, very important’, EliteSingles has come up with the 5 most important factors women consider when choosing a partner. Here is the list:

  1.        Income (57%)
  2.        Height (44%)
  3.        Education (38%)
  4.        Age (35%)
  5.        Religion (32%)
  • Californian women cared the most about their future partner’s income, with a staggering 59% claiming it was important, with 16% claiming it was ‘very, very important’, also the highest rate nationwide. The women of South Dakota cared the least about income, with only 37% claiming that their future partner’s wealth was a factor in who they’d choose, well below the national average.
  • Texans cared the most about the height of their future partner – 49% said it was important to them.
  • Got the smarts? Move to New Jersey! 43% of Jersey girls wanted an educated partner, more than anywhere else.
  • Georgia were the pickiest when it came to the age of their partner, Vermont and Maine were joint for least picky.
  • In Mississippi, 46% of women thought that their partner’s future religion or faith was important, and a staggering 1 in 5 described it as ‘very, very important’.

So gentleman, if you’re single and live in California ask your boss for a raise!
