Chicago Bulls star player, Dwayne Wade brought in the new year rocking a black and white fur coat. The NBA player took a proud stance draped in Saint Laurent. Wade tweeted a picture with the caption that read “2017 here I come!!!!” The fur coat definitely looks like it could stand up to the nationwide arctic blast that we have been experiencing this winter. He paired the look with a Dior Homme hoodie, Helmut Lang sweatpants, and To Boot Pearson suede boots.
The bold fashion choice doesn’t come as a surprise as we have seen the basketball player pull off some fashion hits in the past. Wade has worn cool coats in the past from designers such as J. W. Anderson and Phillip Lim.
While we were not shocked by Wade’s fashion choice, many took to Twitter to voice their criticism of his coat. Kim Kardashian wore a Miu Miu fur coat last year almost identical to Wade’s but didn’t receive nearly as much disapproval for her fur fashion. The Shaderoom even posted a “Who Wore It Best” mashup between Wade and Kardashian. Could it be that we are not used to seeing men wearing fur coats in bold prints or colors?
The fashion and lifestyle magazine, Cinefog, had some interesting thoughts on men and fur coats.
“Women’s fur coat at all times was considered as a caninic element of winter wardrobe. When it comes to men’s fur coats, many will opt out of this type of clothing in favor of classic tailored coats, down jackets or trench coats.
Why? Probably because for women fur clothing is perceived as a kind of whim and luxury, whereas men’s look connotes with accuracy, confidence without all this fashion gimmicks like fur, sequins and so on. However, fashion moves inexorably forward, reconfiguring our vision of the usual canons, erasing stereotypes associated with fur clothing.”
With that being said we applaud Wade for stepping outside of the norm and finding a unique fashion sensibility. Let us know your thoughts on Wade’s look and fur’s place in men’s fashion.
Do you want to make a bold fashion statement? Try this look below that the fashion app ASAP54 generated as a cool play on Dwayne Wade’s look. While not as voluminous the coat still has a print that catches the eye also in black and white. The overcoat is by the brand Reclaimed Vintage and sells for $136 on ASOS. It is made of soft faux fur and fully lined. The coat to the right is a fur bomber that adds just the right amount of flare. It’s a different take on traditional fur jackets as bombers have become the new trend. This item can be purchased at dope.com and has been reduced from $258 to $129.
