To understand Felixx, one must know that he marches to the beat of his own rhythmic drum. Rich harmonies, thick melodies, and sensual lyrics is the only way to describe his unique sound. Groomed from an early age to be a southern gentleman, the Monroe, Georgia-native has mastered the art of distinction. Learn more about Felixx with in our interview below.
When did you first discover your love for music?
I have always loved music, but growing up singing in the church made me realize that it was a true passion. People to this day still call me the “little guy that sings at that church on a hill.” I joined the chorus in the 3rd grade because I had no outlet to share my music and continued through college. I met my manager maybe 2 years ago and began to surround myself with strong creative individuals. From that, my first single “Keep Calm” debuted on radio (Streetz 94.5). I’ve opened for artist including MA$E, Puff & The Family Tour, Babyface, Tank, and have traveled across the country. I couldn’t ask for much more honestly. I’m real life doing what I love.
Who are some of your inspirations and why?
I didn’t grow up in a musical family so I got a lot of my inspiration from artist like Prince, Anthony Hamilton, Miguel, and Calvin Richardson. I remember waking up to my dad my blasting purple rain every Sunday morning. I always looked to those artists for inspiration because I admired their ability to stay true to their artistry/music. They created their own lane that can’t be duplicated!
What has been the biggest challenge with being an independent artist?
The biggest challenge with being, not just independent, but an artist in general, has been overcoming self-doubt. Self-doubt, discipline and pushing through the everyday bullsh*t that comes with the industry. I thank God every day that I have a strong team of individuals around me that can hold their own weight, we all help each other and we get sh*t done! I’m in a place now where I know I cannot be stopped and I’m happy to be here. Mentally, physically and emotionally.
What was it like recording your EP, Playlist?
Recording PLAYLIST was one of my most organic projects. I loved creating it so much because it was strictly about the love of music, real music. Rich harmonies, live instruments, and raw vocals. One of my favorite tracks, All Night, was written and recorded in about 2 hours. My producers and I worked hard on this project and I couldn’t be more proud of the process. It taught me a lot of about my artistry.
If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be?
I would love to collab with Miguel and Sia. From production and lyrical content all the way down to just being able to pick their brains. Sia is one of the dopest songwriters or our time, in my opinion.
How important is it to give back to your community?
I live by the quote “it takes a village to raise an artist,” so to me, giving back to my community is extremely important because my community has supported me since I was young, before the music. Day 1!
What can we look forward to from Felixx?
Man, God has opened a lot of doors for me. I’ll be releasing new music at the top of June, performing at the Apollo Theater May 31, Headlining For Singers Only in New Orleans June 16, Essence Festival, and a bunch of other stuff!
