Security Guard Files Complaint For Odell

Odell Beckham Jr. is caught up in another controversy.

On Thursday, video was released showing the Cleveland Browns’ star wide receiver slapping the buttocks of a Superdome security guard in the LSU locker room after the Tigers whooped up on the Clemson Tigers in the National Championship game by a score of 42-25 in New Orleans on Monday night.

But the plot thickens.

According to media outlets and the New Orleans Police Department, the security guard filed a complaint and an arrest warrant has been issued.

“We are aware of the incident and have been in touch with Odell and his representatives on the matter,” the Browns said in a statement on Thursday. “They are cooperating with the proper authorities to appropriately address the situation.”

Appropriately addressing the situation means knowing the law. Simple battery is defined as battery committed without the consent of the victim, according to the Louisiana statute. What’s more, punishment can include a fine of no more than $1,000 and/or imprisonment of no more than six months.

Beckham Jr. was also caught on camera doling out money to LSU players, which is a violation of NCAA bylaws.

But a spokesperson of LSU told the Baton Rouge Advocate that the money was fake. Joe Burrow, LSU’s Heisman Trophy winner and record-setting quarterback, however, said in a podcast the money was real.

All in all, the situation just looks bad. Beckham Jr. is an extremely talented receiver who seems to get in the way of himself, from his episodes as a New York Giant to now making himself the center of attention despite not even currently playing for LSU, though this is the school where he laced his cleats up.

It might be a situation where Beckham Jr. is trying to get released from the Browns, an underachieving franchise that had high expectations coming into the 2019 season before finishing 6-10 and missing the playoffs.

Whatever the situation is, somebody in Beckham Jr.’s camp needs to enlighten the young man, or he may be another Antonio Brown.
