Disney+ Brings Back The Inspirational Sports Film Genre With 'Safety'
Leave it to Disney+ to bring back a time where the whole family can sit together and watch an inspirational true story that revolves around sports. As Hollywood continues to struggle with releasing new blockbusters during the age of COVID-19, and as audiences are subjected to nonstop superhero and horror remake films, the streaming giant takes us back to the glory days of watching hit movies such as Radio or Remember The Titans, with the release of the powerful true story Safety. The story of former Clemson University football safety Ray McElrathbey, a young man facing a series of challenging circumstances, whose dedication and persistence help him to triumph over adversities, is center focus. Aided by his teammates and the Clemson community, he succeeds on the field while simultaneously raising and caring for his 11-year-old brother Fahmarr.
Directed by Reginald Hudlin, and starring All American Star, Jay Reeves, Safety is a sports drama, perfect for the Holiday season. “Safety is a movie about brotherhood and coming together for the greater good, which is a message our society needs right now. It’s the story of a young man stuck in a situation where failure is not an option. Through sheer force of will, he does the impossible, which inspires the whole community around him to do the same. It’s a movie I can’t wait to watch with my family on Disney+ on December 11 and for families everywhere to do the same,” Hudlin said in a statement.
Families looking for a shared uplifting moment this holiday season is sure to fall in love with the upcoming film. Safety premieres exclusively on Disney+ on December 11th. For now, watch the trailer below.
