Timon Kyle Durrett Speaks on the Value of Playing a Black Father on 'Cheaper By The Dozen'
Growing up, watching several different channels such as Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Disney, were the highlights of a child’s life. For many kids and sometimes parents, watching a good family movie sets the mood for a fun-filled family night. So we felt a little nostalgia when we learned that Disney+ has created a fresh take on the classic comedy we know as Cheaper By The Dozen.
The new film follows Zoey and Paul Baker, played by Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff, as they navigate a hectic home life while raising ten children! Talk about pulling your hair out! Timon Kyle Durrett is also in Cheaper By The Dozen and portrays one of the fathers getting in on the parenting action as well.
Seeing a Black man embrace fatherhood on TV is amazing and continues to push the narrative that Black men are and want to be in their child's lives. “It’s a refreshing look and a new take on what it looks like to be a Black parent, especially as it's portrayed in this world of film and television,” Timon shares. He also plays a parent on OWN's Queen Sugar. In our recent interview, he talks about how even though roles were different, they share some similarities on fatherhood.
