GLAAD Hires Actor Julian J. Walker As Its Associate Director for Communities of Color & Media

The LGBTQ+ community continues to thrive more than ever in this generation. From equality rights to the legalization of same-sex marriage, members of the LGBTQ+ community have the opportunity to live freely and be themselves unapologetically.

One organization that speaks volumes when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights is Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), which is the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer media advocacy organization. Recently, they hired actor Julian J. Walker as its associate director for communities of color & media. You may know him from the 2014 drama Blackbird, a film that follows a young Black gay male who struggled with his religion and sexuality.

With his new position at GLAAD, Julian plans to ensure that the communities of color & media department partner with local initiatives throughout the country, especially in the southern region.

"Early into my career, I realized the importance of community support. I'm looking forward to the spaces we'll continue to create, the voices we will continue to amplify, and the opportunities for community advancement on the horizon. Always remember, your individuality is your superpower. So continue to soar, trusting and believing you are deserving,Julian shares.

This will be a very powerful and interest collaboration with Julian and GLAAD. It’s amazing to see actors and celebrities give back to communities like this and fight for equal justice for all. With this collaboration, GLAAD will continue to help rewrite the script for LGBTQ+ acceptance.
