Chiefs' Quarterback Patrick Mahomes Becomes Second-Largest Shareholder of American State Bank

The Super Bowl MVP opened his first account at the Texas-based Financial Institution

Not only is Patrick Mahomes one of the greatest quarterbacks to play in the NFL today, but he is also one of the greatest athlete investors out there.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ starting quarterback is, today, the second-largest shareholder in American State Bank (ASB) – a Texas-based financial institution, according to a press release.

It’s a full-circle moment for the all-time gunslinger. The bank that Mahomes is in partnership with is also the home of his first-ever bank account that he opened at the ripe age of 16.

“I opened my first account with American State Bank when I was just 16-years old,” Mahomes said in a press release. “From my time at Texas Tech and throughout my career in Kansas City, ASB has been a constant in my life and I’m proud to join the ownership group during its transformation into a major player in the Lubbock market, Texas and the new digital economy.”

American State Bank focuses on the Dallas-Fort Worth, Lubbock, Amarillo and Plainview markets. And with the assistance of Mahomes, the bank looks to not only expand its customer base but also develop its digital footprint, according to Afrotech.com.

“As a life-long Texan, to have the opportunity to team up with someone as inspirational as Patrick as we transform ASB from a local bank in our great state to a global bank of the future is a dream come true,” ASB Chairman Brandon Steele said in a statement.

In October, ASB commemorated Mahomes amid the Ring of Honor weekend, which took place at the 27-year-old’s alma mater, Texas Tech. Mahomes was also inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame.

Mahomes is no stranger to partnerships. The Super Bowl MVP partnered with Hyperice as an investor as well as an ambassador, joining fellow athletes Bubba Wallace (racing) to invest in a cultural leadership fund.

Additionally, Mahomes is the youngest sports team owner when he became the part-owner of the Kansas City Royals at the age of 24.
