Pharrell Williams To Release Lego Biopic This Fall

Fresh off his debut at Fashion Week in Paris, Academy Award-nominated, Grammy Award winner Pharrell Williams will bring his life story to the big screen via a LEGOS movie this fall.

The biopic titled Piece by Piece will be directed by Oscar-winner Morgan Neville and distributed by Focus Films. While the film will be produced by Neville and Tremelo Production's Caitrin Rogers, Williams will serve as an executive producer alongside Mimi Valdés and I am OTHER Executive Vice President of TV & Film Shani Saxon. Jill Wilfert and Keith Malone are executive producing for the LEGO Group.

Speaking about the upcoming film, Williams stated, "When I had this crazy vision to tell this story through Lego bricks, I couldn’t have imagined a better partner than Morgan. He is a legend. I am grateful that Focus wanted to collaborate with us and I’m honored to share this with the world and bring people into my universe. Building with Lego bricks encourages us to follow our imagination. … Who would’ve thought that playing with these toys as a kid would evolve into a movie about my life? It’s proof that anyone else can do it too.”

Williams was nominated for an Oscar as a producer of the film Hidden Figures, which starred Oscar nominee and color purple star, Taraji P Henson. The fashion designer also received a nomination in the Best Original Song category for Happy, from the film Despicable Me 2. To date, Williams has won 13 Grammy Awards as well.

Neville stated about working on the project for five years. "Pharrell Williams approached me with the idea of helping him tell his story through Lego animation. It was one of those rare moments where I knew in a second that this was a journey I wanted to go on. I’m grateful to our partners at Focus Features and the Lego Group for their belief in our crazy mission. We assembled an incredible team of creative collaborators to help make a new type of film. I can’t wait for people to see it.”

Focus Films' Chairman Peter Kujawski expressed that he hopes the film will "inspire everyone to dance, to sing, and to use their voice to build the world they want to see brick by brick, and piece by piece” while collaborating with Williams and Neville on the film.
