Brothers and Briefcases Celebrates the Power of Community at 'The Power of Your Briefcase' Event

Brothers and Briefcases

On Saturday, July 13th, Brothers and Briefcases, in partnership with Gentlemen’s Factory and supported by Uncle Nearest Whiskey, hosted their much-anticipated annual event, The Power of Your Briefcase. This empowering gathering took place in Brooklyn and highlighted the resilience, strength and influence of Black and Brown men within the community.

Founded seven years ago by Guildia Lopez, Brothers and Briefcases has been at the forefront of creating safe, constructive spaces for men of color. Lopez, motivated by her deep respect and admiration for these individuals, has built a platform that not only supports but also celebrates their achievements and aspirations.

This year’s event featured an insightful panel discussion led by host Andre Turnbull. The panel included notable figures such as Eric Keith, founder of The Quintessential Gentleman; Lide, creator of Black Fly on the Wall; Kevin C. Riley, New York City Councilman; and A. Paul Fisher, founding member of H.O.O.D Educators Inc. The discussion covered critical topics, including community awareness ahead of the general election, the unique strengths each man brings to his professional life, and personal reflections on identity and impact.

“What is the one thing that makes your briefcase powerful?” and “Who are you uninterrupted?” were among the thought-provoking questions addressed, sparking deep conversation and reflection among panelists and attendees alike. The event also spotlighted 15 young men sponsored by H.O.O.D Educators Inc. to attend, emphasizing the organization's commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders.

As Brothers and Briefcases continues to expand its reach and impact, events like these show the importance of spaces where men of color can openly share, learn and inspire one another.
