Black people have been the driving force behind the culture we see today. What does the term culture mean to you and Its significance to our community?

Culture is a word that can mean so much. In this context, I view culture as the driving influence that expresses how people behave and move through the world. Specifically for Black people, we have historically been pushed out of the normal structures of society so we’ve always had to create our own worlds. That freedom to create authentically without any bounds is culture.   No one is more creative and inspiring than Black people. We exist in a state of innovation because we don't follow the mainstream patterns.

When was the moment that you realized you needed to be the change you wanted to see in your industry?

I’ve always worked in advertising, media and marketing. From my very first job at Ogilvy+Mather in New York, I would walk the halls of an advertising giant and see contemporary giants that all looked the same…older white men. I’ve always been the only Black person in the room for most of my career. I knew the rules of the game didn't apply to me so I decided to create opportunities that reflected me. REVOLT offered a perfect environment to create an agency that was centered on Blackness and its potential to change the world.

What impact do you hope to leave behind?

My superpower is my creative mind. I hope to use my creativity to create an impact in the Black community through opportunity, exposure, and autonomy. I want to be the root that creates branches, leaves and ultimately seeds that offer a new generation of Black creativity.

What can we expect next from you?

Art and science are the two influences that stay prevalent in my life. I am going to keep tapping into creating visual art that moves people and tapping into innovative technology like AI to step into the future.

Black people have been the driving force behind the culture we see today. What does the term culture mean to you and Its significance to our community?

Culture to me is HOW and often WHY we do things. Culture defines how a community interacts and interprets messages. It often tells us what a thing actually is versus what it was designed to be.  Culture is a translator; a lens that tells us what the world is and tells the world who we are.

When was the moment that you realized you needed to be the change you wanted to see in your industry?

I was working as an engineer in NYC when 9-11 happened. At the time, my wife was nine months pregnant with my son and after the big day, I was required to work 16-hour shifts at Ground Zero. I wasn’t receiving great answers to the questions I was asking about on-site health risks and based on what we know now we had a major reason to be concerned. After completing my assignments at ground zero, I felt like my life was more important to me and my family than to my employers. From that point on I became a serial entrepreneur.

What impact do you hope to leave behind?

It’s my hope that my legacy be that I created lasting pathways for society to imagine and create more inclusive futures and that there be communities to support those visions.

What can we expect next from you?

I am currently contracted to develop a Saturday morning network television show for teens. The show highlights the relationship between innovation and culture and creates entertaining ways for families to discuss STEAM careers.
