Green Lantern Series in the Works: Aaron Pierre and Stephan James in Talks to Play John Stewart

HBO is preparing for the DC Universe with its latest venture, Lanterns.

The new series, which has received a straight-to-series order, will revamp the iconic Green Lantern saga with a focus on two of its most beloved characters, John Stewart and Hal Jordan.

Ozark showrunner Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Eisner Award winner Tom King are behind the upcoming series.

HBO initially wanted a different Green Lantern narrative that would spotlight characters Guy Gardner and Alan Scott. After several creative shifts and the departure of previous showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith, the series was reimagined to center on John Stewart, a pivotal figure in the Green Lantern lore and DC's first Black superhero.

As Lanterns moves into casting, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Aaron Pierre and Stephan James are reportedly in contention to portray John Stewart. It was previously reported that Damson Idris was in the running but The Hollywood Reporter's sources says this is no longer the case.
