5 Reasons We Will Be Checking For 'Poppa's House' Every Week

A "Wayans Duo" is back on our screens.

Damon Wayans Sr. and Damon Wayans Jr. star in CBS's new sitcom Poppa's House. Wayans Sr. plays a legendary talk radio host and happily divorced "Poppa," whose views are challenged by his new female co-host, played by Essence Atkins. At home, he continues to parent his adult son, played by Wayans Jr., a brilliant dreamer trying to pursue his passion while also being a responsible father and husband.

We watched the pilot episode, now streaming on Paramount+. Here are five reasons why it’s staying on our must-watch list.

1. Unmatched Father-Son Chemistry

When you cast actual father and son as fictional father and son, magic happens. Wayans Sr. and Jr. bring their real-life rapport to the screen. Their natural chemistry and impeccable comedic timing make every scene they share feel authentic and hilarious.

2. The Return of Classic Sitcom Bloopers

In a throwback to old-school television, Poppa's House brings back something we've been missing: end-of-episode bloopers. Last night’s episode featured a 30-second blooper reel that not only provided extra laughs but also showcased the fun the cast has while filming.

3. Essence Atkins: That's All

We’re always grateful whenever the stunning Essence Atkins graces our screens. As Ivy, Poppa's coworker, we can already tell that their workplace relationship is going to be one we haven't seen before.

4. Shawn Wayans Is A Writer

The Wayans family continues to show that it's family over everything. Shawn Wayans joined the creative team as a writer. Michael and Kim Wayans are also writers on the sitcom. This family touch ensures the show maintains the signature Wayans humor while bringing fresh perspectives to modern family dynamics.

5. Geoffrey Owens as Wayans Jr.'s Father-in-Law

The show has already delivered with Geoffrey Owens appearing as Damon Jr.'s father-in-law and Poppa's comedic nemesis. With confirmed upcoming appearances by Lamorne Morris and Tommy Davidson, Poppa's House could be a revolving door of talented performers from or past.
