Former NFL Star Colin Allred Takes on Ted Cruz in Bid for Texas Senate Seat

Colin Allred stands before a diverse crowd of supporters, his voice resonating with the same determination that propelled him from the NFL to the halls of Congress. Now, the 40-year-old Democratic representative is setting his sights on an even bigger playing field: the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Ted Cruz.

Allred's story is quintessentially Texan. Born and raised in Dallas by a single mother who worked as a public school teacher, he understood the value of hard work and community support. His path led him from Hillcrest High School, where he was elected class president, to Baylor University on a full-ride football scholarship. 4. Reproductive Rights: In a state with some of the strictest abortion laws in the nation, Allred vows to protect women's reproductive freedoms.

5. Bipartisanship: Allred touts his record of working across the aisle, emphasizing his endorsements from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and labor unions like the AFL-CIO.

6. Border Security: Responding to a key issue for Texas voters, Allred has shifted towards a tougher stance on border security while still advocating for comprehensive immigration reform.

7. Climate Change: He supports investments in clean energy and measures to address climate change, framing it as an economic opportunity for Texas.
