‘Bebe’s Kids’ But Live-Action and Reimagined as a Psychological Thriller

Did you know that Bebe’s Kids has been reimagined as a psychological thriller?

Bebe's Kids

Yes, that Bebe’s Kids—the 1992 animated classic inspired by the late comedian Robin Harris.

Known for its humorous take on dealing with bad a** kids and the Black family dynamic, the original is a nostalgic piece and a Black household name. But now, in a very interesting twist, Bebe’s Kids has been given new life as a psychological thriller, courtesy of Marquis Boone.

On Halloween 2022, Boone released the trailer for Bebe, a live-action reimagining of Bebe’s Kids with a dark, suspenseful tone. The plot follows a single mother, Bebe, who is unnerved by the troubling pattern of her dates mysteriously vanishing after meeting her three unruly children. In contrast to the original comedy, Boone’s adaptation dives into a shadowed exploration of Bebe’s life and her children’s chaotic behavior. “I wanted to ask questions like, ‘Who was Bebe? Why were these kids so bad? What was going on in their home?’” Boone explained in an earlier press release.

This Halloween, Boone premiered the full short film on his YouTube channel, giving fans a chance to see this new interpretation. The synopsis reads:

Bebe (played by Sarah Danielle Toran), a single mother of three, is a woman on the edge, grappling with a disturbing pattern—after each promising first date, the men vanish without a trace. Enter Robin Harris (portrayed by Brent Black), a charismatic stranger who notices the strange behavior of Bebe’s kids and becomes determined to uncover the truth behind it. As Bebe struggles to navigate the challenges of love and motherhood, she’s pulled into a web of paranoia and suspicion. Will she uncover the mystery, or will she fall victim to her own mind?

Boone’s reimagining will have you questioning “what if?”
