48th NAACP Image Awards Recap
The 48th Annual NAACP Image Awards were held last night in Pasadena, California. The NAACP Image Awards honors individuals and groups who personify what it means to be on television, film, in music, and literature.
Many awards were given out last night but the biggest award which is Entertainer of the year, was given to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Johnson has been in numerous films over the past year, not to mention starring in his hit TV show Ballers on HBO.
Beyoncé was one of the biggest winners last night, winning a total of 5 Image awards. She won Outstanding Female Artist and Outstanding Album for Lemonade, just to name a few. Chance the Rapper also won Outstanding New Artist.
On the television side, Black-ish won for Outstanding Comedy Series and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story won Outstanding Television Movie, Limited-Series, or Dramatic Special. Both of these shows won a total of 3 awards. Taraji P. Henson won Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for Empire, and Sterling K. Brown won Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for This Is Us.
Hidden Figures won the coveted award for Outstanding Motion Picture while one of its stars in the film, Taraji P. Henson won for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture. Denzel Washington won the Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture Award for Fences while his co-star Viola Davis won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.
