  1. Wearing

Knitwear is usually made out of very delicate fabric and it can be pulled by nails, jewelry, pins, etc. If you accidentally happen to make a pull in your sweater, don’t worry. It can be straightened out easily.First, find two ends of the yarn which have been pulled. If there’s still a loop, carefully pull it in with a knitting needle, from the opposite side of a sweater. If there’s no loop, tie two separate ends in a knot, then double it again, and trim the ends off carefully. You can also iron the part of a sweater and it will be as good as it was.

  1. Washing Although knit sweater can be washed in machine easily, it actually depends on a machine program and the wool quality how it will bear machine washing. Still, the best possible solution is a hand wash. It won’t take a lot of your time and will save your knitwear from damaging in a machine. At first, treat any spots with stains or bad smell with a mild soap before you soak it in the water. Add the detergent for wool in approximate 5 liters of lukewarm water and soak the knitwear well. Take it out afterward and squeeze to remove the water – be gentle not to damage it, though. Leave it to dry and enjoy.

Remember that well-washed knitwear can last for many years. It is one of the most important things to keep the good quality of the knitwear in years to come. You can also take your knitwear to the dry cleaners sometimes. This is a very good option if you have a piece of knitwear which was expensive or very hard to take care of.

  1. Drying You definitely shouldn’t dry your knitwear in full sun, since it can damage its color. Furthermore, avoid drying it on places with bad odor because knitwear acts like a sponge and sucks all the smells around it.Wool sweaters need some extra care when drying. After washing, gently squeeze out the excess water without twisting or wrinkling the sweater. When most of the water is out, lay the sweater on a large towel, gently roll the towel along with the sweater to get even more water out of it. After that, take a new towel, lay your sweater on it and let it air dry for few hours.

Most modern knitwear can be dried on drying racks without losing its shape, but avoid using pegs when hanging it up – they will leave some marks.

  1. Ironing If you iron your knitwear as you should, it will surely look far better. Ironing smooths down all the fibers that popped out so that it looks really good in the end. To avoid any damage to your knitwear, you can iron it with a cotton fabric on it.Put the cotton rug on your sweater and spray some water on it, then start to iron it. You can also add few drops of essential oil if you want it to smell nice. Of course, always use the wool setting on your iron, so you won’t burn it.

  2. Storing

When you put off your knitwear in the closet, make sure you washed them before. It is the best to put them in special bags so that moths won’t bite it and leave holes in it. In order to maintain freshness, put a small bag of dried lavender or a few bay leaves in – when the winter comes, they will be fresh as on the day you put them there! If you’re storing your knitwear in wooden drawers, make sure you place a soft cloth or paper on the bottom, to avoid any damages from the wood.
