Brian Hoyer will likely get first-team reps this week
Chicago Bears quarterback Brian Hoyer will probably take first-team reps in practice this week.
Hoyer took over the reins in last night’s showdown between the Bears and Philadelphia Eagles in the third quarter when bears starting quarterback Jay Cutler injured his thumb.
It didn’t do much good for the Bears as the Eagles put a whooping on “da Bears,” both offensively and defensively—and let’s not forget coaching wise. The final score: 29-14 Eagles.
Still, Cutler had X-rays on the thumb. At a press conference today, Bears head coach John Fox put in his two cents pertaining to Cutler’s sprain and a possible timetable.
“We’ll just take it day-to-day,” Fox said. Brian Hoyer stepped in and I thought did a pretty good job. We’ll evaluate that tomorrow and split up practice as need be.”
The Bears are just 5-10 in games Cutler doesn’t start and 0-7 in games he doesn’t finish. Hoyer, who is in his eighth year, was the Houston Texans quarterback last year.
While Cutler has a cannon arm, the Bears will likely be better suited to keep Hoyer as the starter. Cutler makes to many mistakes and is an underachieving quarterback in this game.
