Dion Waiters Signs with the Miami Heat

Dion Waiters will need some sunscreen in sunny Miami as he will now be a member of the Miami Heat.

According to the Miami Herald, Waiters, who played with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunder the past two years, has signed a $2.9 million room exception.

The new deal comes on the heels as Dwyane Wade signed a two-year deal with the Chicago Bulls that will pay him close to $47 million, giving Waiters a realistic shot at starting for the Miami Heat.

While Waiters only  averaged 9.8 points in 78 games off the bench with the Thunder, he showed some flashes of brilliance in last year’s playoffs amid the times Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook weren’t playing two on five—including draining some threes and slashing to the hoop before hitting some tough layups, participating in one of the more disappointing choke jobs in NBA history: losing to the Golden State Warriors after his team was up 3-1.

When Waiters stays within himself, he is a pretty good slasher to the rim as well as a solid three-point shooter when he finds the stroke. Last year, he shot the ball 39.9 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from beyond the arc.

The 6-4 guard will now be in a rotation comprising Wayne Ellington, Josh Richardson, Tyler Johnson and Goran Dragic.
