Isaac Hayes Honored With Official Day in Atlanta

August 20 was officially made Isaac Hayes Day in the city of Atlanta and was hosted by Jovita Moore (News Host) and Art Terrell (Radio Host). Presented to Isaac Hayes III (Son of Isaac, Philanthropist, Industry Great) by Felicia Brown (President of the Atlanta City Council), the proclamation applauded Hayes for his major contributions not only to the music but to the city of Atlanta which he called him from 1978 until the late 1990’s. Mayor Keisha Lance-Bottoms, 60th mayor of Atlanta, presented Hayes with the Pheonix Award, the highest honor you can receive in Atlanta. Bottoms actually shared history with Hayes because her father was actually an artist with Isaac during his Stax Records years. Finally, Catherine Brewton (Vice president of BMI) presented the family with 6 of BMI’s Million play certificates for his top 6 hits that have been streamed millions of times over the years.

Isaac Hayes, the man, and the legend was widely known for the many songs he wrote in the 1960’s & 70’s for Memphis, TN based Stax Records before becoming a recording artist himself. His biggest hit The Theme from Shaft went on to win awards, including the Oscars, which made Isaac the first African American to win one. Isaac Hayes dominated the music industry for over 50 years until his death in 2008. His legacy lives on from the many artists who have sampled his music and the replays of the Comedy Central animated show”South Park” where Hayes lent his voice to the character Chef. Isaac Hayes Music and Legacy will forever Inspire and Entertain generations to come.
