Meet Published Author Dominique Battle
Dominique Battle is an author, poet, and screenwriter who has just recently released a new book titled “Dream Deferred” out today on Amazon.com. We caught up with Dominique to learn more about him being a writer, his latest book and what we can look forward to in the future from him.
When did you first discover your love for writing?
I think I was about twelve years old when I discovered that I loved to write and had a gift of the word. I used to write short stories and draw pictures to go along with them. I knew around 14 years old that writing was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life If you weren’t an author what would you be?
Other than dreaming of being an author, I used to dream about being a physical therapist. Helping people was something that I’ve always wanted to do, and still do. I hope that with my writing I can help people along their journeys just like I am helping myself by writing. I want to inspire people to pen stories important to us.
You have written Three novels. Can you give a brief description of each?
My first novel, Tattooed Teardrops, is the story of two friends, Muse and Tempest and how they both fall in love with the same guy and the consequences they face afterward. It deals with friendship, betrayal, and forgiveness.
My second novel, How To Kick Love Out, is a novel about finding a good thing but messing up that good thing. It deals with mental disorders in the black community and outside forces that ruin that “perfect” relationship.
My third and current novel, Dream, Deferred is a story of three friends at the fictional HBCU, Newman Campbell University, and the trials and tribulations they go through while trying to navigate their lives during two school semesters.
What challenges have you faced being an African-American Author?
Getting people to actually read a novel coming from a male, African-American author would be my biggest challenge. Being a self-published author is hard enough, and having to think about how to promote your book can be a challenge at times, but being African-American makes me have to work extra hard to get my voice heard. I definitely think our voices need to be heard.
What was the last book you read?
The last book I ready was Eric Jerome Dickey’s The Blackbirds. It’s a novel by another African-American male author.
Who is your favorite author?
My favorite author is the legendary Langston Hughes.
Who has motivated you the most?
My family. I have the best support system in the world and they are always encouraging me to be the best that I can be.
What can we look forward to from Dominique Battle?
What can be expected from Dominique Battle is more novels! I am working on the sequel to my first novel, Tattooed Teardrops, which is definitely a fan-favorite. That’s expected to drop at the end of the Summer. I hope to adapt my novels into screenplays in the next two years and shop them around. And of course, the short film that I wrote, When The Well Runs Dry, produced by my college buddy, Reggie Lochard. I’m hoping to become a household name in the near future!
