Moonlight. The Film That Should Win An Oscar
Last night was the screening of the highly anticipated, Oscar worthy Moonlight.
Moonlight is a timeless story of human connection and self-discovery. It chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami.
The film showed levels to its characters as they each dealt with their own struggles. It gave the audience a look into the real life examples of adversity and struggles Gay Black Men deal with starting in their childhood. It forced a definition of masculinity and produced a type of “Gay Man” that mainstream media hardly flaunts. The film created enough depth as to keep the audience intrigued but didn’t go far off the cliff to where the masses couldn’t enjoy.
Moonlight starred Naomie Harris, André Holland, Mahershala Ali, Janelle Monáe, Trevante Rhodes, Alex R. Hibbert, Jaden Piner, Ashton Sanders, Jharrel Jerome and was written and directed by Barry Jenkins.
Moonlight opens theatrically in New York and Los Angeles on October 21st with Expansion starting October 28. This is a film you cannot miss.
