NFL Suspends Josh Gordon

Things went from bad to worse for NFL receiver Josh Gordon.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Gordon today was suspended indefinitely for violating substance abuse policy.

With this latest suspension, it marks the sixth time Gordon has been suspended by the NFL, and the fifth time because of substance abuse.

His latest team, the Seattle Seahawks, was informed today.

“Our heart goes out to Josh to have to face this again,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Monday.

“The fact that he’s up against it and all, it poses a great challenge to him. Fortunately, he’ll have the benefit of all of the league’s resources to support him and to help him, and we’ll wish him the very best in taking care of business. It was very unfortunate.”

It was also unfortunate that the receiver was released off injured reserve by the Patriots last month.

Gordon, a one-time Pro Bowler, had seven catches for 139 yards with Seattle, which includes a 58-yard reception amid a victory over the Carolina Panthers this year.

Gordon suspended is a travesty. This guy was blessed with all the intangibles, including speed and catching ability. Any NFL team can use his services, but for now, the NFL is making him pay for his poor choices off the field.

At this point, it will be a stretch to even think Gordon can become a reliable NFL receiver.
