Odell Beckham Jr and Giants Agree on Record Deal
The NFL’s most polarizing wide receiver has finally secured the bag. Odell Beckham Jr. and the New York Giants have reached an agreement on a 5 year $95 million dollar contract extension. Video from the New York Giants locker room has already surfaced as Beckham’s teammate Roger Lewis tweeted the superstar wide receiver dancing after finalizing the deal. With $65 million dollars guaranteed, Odell Beckham Jr. is now the second-highest-paid player on the New York Giants roster and the ninth highest-paid player in the National Football League.

Since his rookie year in 2014, Odell has been a household name across the United States. He was selected as the 12th overall pick but didn’t get to play at the beginning on the season due to injury. But it didn’t take Odell long to show that he was worth the wait. He received the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award after making the “catch of the year” along with 12 touchdowns and 1,305 receiving yards. In his short career, Beckham already holds multiple Giants and NFL records like fastest to reach 250 career receptions (38 games), fastest to reach 4,000 career receiving yards (42 games, tied with Lance Alworth), only player in NFL history to have 1,300+ receiving yards while playing in 12 or fewer games in season, and so much more. Beckham has shown to not only be a fan favorite because of his touchdown celebrations, swagger, and a trendy hairstyle but also a valuable asset to the Giants offense as they went 3-13 with him sidelined with an injury most of this past season.
Beckham should’ve certainly seen a contract extension a long time ago, but many issues put payday on hold. Odell Beckham has shown to not be a durable player in the NFL based on his past dealing with injuries. Even with his injuries, Beckham was still able to show he is a talented receiver. The Giants were hesitant on paying the superstar and even had him on the trading block less than a year ago. A few seasons ago he was involved in an on-field altercation with Josh Norman. Later on that year Odell was seen enjoying life on a yacht with other Giants teammates the week before a playoff game against the Green Bay Packers in which he played poorly and the Giants lost. This lead to negative press and a contract holdout for Beckham.
Last year, Giants owner John Mara spoke on the team’s intentions on Odell, “Obviously, we want him to be a Giant for the rest of his career,” Mara said. The rest is history-making Odell Beckham Jr. the highest paid offensive non-quarterback in NFL history an offer he was certainly looking forward to. “For me, it’s not going to change my goals that I have on the field,” said Beckham Jr. “If anything, it just increased them even more… this is nothing but more motivation to go even harder and to do even better.” Not only have the Giants taken care of their superstar wide receiver, they still have their Hall of Fame quarterback Eli Manning, and their promising 1st round draft pick running back Saquan Barkley. Look out for the big blue offensive this season!
