Oscar Winners Highlights

Amidst the stellar line up of talented stars, it was Mahershala Ali who took home the coveted Oscar for Actor in Supporting Role. Ali stole the show with his heartfelt performance as the renowned, classical pianist, Dr. Don Shirley in Green Book. The film beat top contenders A Star is Born and Roma, winning Best Picture and Original Screenplay. Green Book is a biography-comedy set in the American South of the 1960s. The controversial story features the unlikely friendship between an African American pianist and a working-class, Italian American who becomes his driver. The film is directed by Peter Farrelly and stars Viggo Mortensen, Mahershala Ali, Linda Cardellini, and Don Stark.

Spike Lee,Charlie Wachtel, David Rabinowitz, and Kevin Willmott bagged Writing Adapted Screenplay for BlackKklansman. The comedy-drama is based on Ron Stallworth’s memoir entitled Black Klansman. The film stars John David Washington, Adam Driver and Laura Harrier. Set during the 1970s in Colorado Springs, the story unfolds as the city’s first African American detective devises a plan to infiltrate and expose the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.

Director Peter Ramsey makes history as the first African American to be awarded Best Animated Feature category. In Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse, a teen joins forces with heroic counterparts from other dimensions to stop the menace threatening them all. The film features the vocal talents of Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, and Hailee Steinfeld.
