Parsons in Danger of Sustaining Career-Ending Injuries

Atlanta Hawks forward Chandler Parsons may not play professional basketball again.

Parsons was involved in an automobile accident impacted by a drunk driver, his attorneys have confirmed.

The 31-year-old is seriously injured, and as a result, has been listed on the Hawks’ injury report since Wednesday’s wreck.

“Parsons was involved in an automobile accident this afternoon following practice,” the Hawks said last week. “Parsons has been diagnosed with a concussion and whiplash. Parsons will now enter the NBA’s concussion protocol.”

The former University of Florida player sustained a traumatic brain injury, a disc herniation and a torn labrum, according to his attorneys John Morgan and Nick Panagakis from a press release.

“The at-fault driver created utter chaos on the roadway, needlessly endangering the lives of countless motorists,” the statement said. “He now stands charged with DUI, admitted drinking, had alcohol in the car with him, passed out after causing a three-car crash at 2 pm on Wednesday in a busy intersection.”

Parsons had a promising young career. Becoming the first-ever Florida Gator to win the SEC Player of the Year award averaging 11.3 points and 7.8 rebounds in 2011, he would be drafted by the Houston Rockets in that same year. He has a career average of 12.8 points on 46 percent shooting and 37 percent shooting from downtown.

Parsons, if healthy, is an asset as a shooter that can stretch the defense. He even has the ability to drive to the basket with a few dribbles.
