The Arrival of Raf Simons
Everyone loves New York Fashion Week right!? Wrong! While the ever popular New York Fashion Week (mostly women’s ready to wear) is visited and written about by fashion lovers from all over the world the same can’t be said for New York Fashion Week: Men’s. NYFWM doesn’t get the same fanfare and international press that NYFW gets.
Well hopefully that will be shifting in a new direction as designer Raf Simons brings his label to New York. The popular designer usually shows at Paris Fashion Week. Simons will be showing his fall 2017 collection for NYFWM. The showcase will be on Feb. 1. The time and place of the show has yet to be announced.
His last collection was shown at Pitti Uomo, an international fashion event in Florence, Italy that shows men’s ready to wear fashions, new fashion projects, and accessories.
The designer launched his brand in 1995. His streetwear designs fuse athletic elements and innovative prints. Simons’ designs are favorites to some of the industry’s most creative individuals including Rihanna, Kanye West, ASAP Rocky, Juicy J and the list just goes on and on.
Simons’ brand is headquartered in Antwerp, Belgium. His arrival should bring some editors and buyers from Europe who have never been to men’s fashion week. The designer’s relocation is the perfect way to get the fashion world excited about men’s wear in New York. His notoriety should generate buzz and international press. We’re happy to see Simons make his move to the fashion capital as he takes on his new role as the chief creative officer of Calvin Klein.
