Top Men’s Looks from the Golden Globes
As many of you know the Golden Globes were underway just a few days ago. The black tie event brought out some of the biggest stars per usual. There was a shift however from themes of previous years. This year was all about standing in solidarity with the anti-sexual harassment group Times Up. Interestingly enough, media mogul Oprah Winfrey used those exact words in her acceptance speech as she became the first African-American woman to accept the prestigious Cecile B. Demille Award. This stance against sexual harassment follows the allegations against movie tycoon Harvey Weinstein back in October. Oprah ended her speech with “A new day is on the horizon and when that new day finally dawns it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight and some pretty phenomenal men.” We were happy that the queen of media didn’t leave out men from the conversation. Some people choose to think that this is a women’s only issue but some of Hollywood’s most talented gentleman made statements of solidarity with their all black attire.
Our fashion editor, Mickey Freeman, took to his Instagram to show three of his picks for best dressed ladies of the night represented by the hashtag #MicksPicks. He chose Naomi Campbell, Issa Rae, and Mary J. Blige. So following his lead we’ve chosen three men’s looks that we thought were dapper and fitting for the occasion.

The always classy rapper/actor Common came donned in all black from head to toe. He wore an Armani suit with a Tiffany lapel pin and watch. His shoes were Bruno Magli Carlos Patent Slip-ons. If you don’t want to break the bank we saw some sleek patent leather slip-ons at Aldo! Of course he came sporting that infectious smile. If inquiring minds want to know he was styled by Micaela Erlanger. This is a best dressed moment!
Well this look was no Stranger Thing! Caleb McLaughlin who plays “Lucas” on the hit show Stranger Things came red carpet ready! When he’s not picking out cool items to wear on the show, he’s letting his stylist do the work. The young actor wore Ports 1961 menswear, Jimmy Choo Boots, a Vintage Dior brooch, and a Uri Minkoff Movado watch. We liked the turtleneck with the suit as it was a departure from traditional suit attire. For similar knitwear maybe you can try Zara or Top Shop. He was styled by Darryl Glover.
Daniel Kaluuya, the star from the 2017 thriller Get Out went the more traditional route and still looked great nonetheless. The actor wore a Gucci suit. The crisp white collared shirt and black bow tie definitely set off this look. He also came representing this year’s cause wearing A Time’s Up pin on the lapel of his jacket. We cant wait to see what other red carpet looks he rocks as gets ready for the release of his follow up role in Marvel’s highly anticipated film Black Panther.
Which one of the looks would you wear?
